The gospels refer often to “Mary Magdalene” or “Mary of Magdala.” Magdalene, like Nazarene, or Cyrene, are names of the gospel that were passed on and became part of the life, tradition, and cultural belief of Western Christianity.
From the time we acquired the terrain for Magdala we had the clear understanding of the importance that it had for Christianity. Somehow we knew we where acquiring the hometown of Mary Magdalene. She appears at least 12 times in the gospel. Without a doubt, she was a very important woman among the first generation of Jesus´ followers. She must have been a great example for those believers, as she was cited in their writings (the gospels) many times.
Mary Magdalene was important and continues to be so at this time in our world as she was a role model at the time and hence left her mark on the world.
We want to honor this gift that God has granted in Magdala and offer it to be once more a place for reflection, prayer, and meditation. Magdala, with the figure of Mary Magdalene, are waiting for you here in the Holy Land anytime you want. The 22nd of July, on her feast day, we invite you to join and be a link in this chain of prayer and determination to see this gift of Magdala impact more and more people.
