A seed has been planted as the Magdalena Institute begins to take shape. As we welcome and witness the experiences of those who have visited Magdala, we pause to reflect on the importance of promoting the dignity of both men and women.
As visitors enter the Duc In Altum worship center, they marvel at the honor paid to women through the Atrium’s artistic detail. Likewise, as they continue in to the Boat Chapel, they stand in awe of golden images depicting the 12 men chosen to follow Jesus. The worship center reflects the joint significance of men and women. Each one has an eternal value. Each one deserves a place of honor.
Throughout history, we have seen many attempts to correct injustice. Although feminist movements have successfully established equality between women and men in many ways, some trends have obscured the original uniqueness and beauty of femininity or have damaged the true nature of masculinity.
In June 2016, Magdalena Institute will sponsor a series of Periscope conferences that will offer insights into the dignity of the human creation. The series hopes to foster an appreciation of the differences between men and women while honoring their equality and dignity.
Join Laura Mayers as she presents the scriptural foundations for the difference between men and women; reflects on the biological and psychological aspects particular to women; and proposes vocational strengths that women offer humanity. Important questions will be posed: What is the difference between men and women? Does femininity and masculinity matter? What difference does it make in our culture today? How can we appreciate the differences and capitalize on each one’s uniqueness?
Laura Mayers is a Consecrated Woman from the Regnum Christi Movement. She has taught Education of Women, Developmental and Educational Psychology at Mater Ecclesiae College as well as offered spiritual retreats and Theology of the Body conferences to young adults, men and women in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
A series of nine 20 minute sessions will be aired by Periscope (magdala_galilee) on the following days and times. Video and podcasts will be available at www.magdala.org in July 2016.
