Dear Friends of Magdala,
Many pilgrims who visit the Duc in Altum Spirituality Center in Magdala are impressed with the beautiful mosaics that are portrayed on the side chapels of the building. Each mosaic has thousands of little colored tiles or tesserae, which put together, form striking scenes of Jesus and His ministry around the Sea of Galilee.
Constructing a pilgrim’s guesthouse is like building a mosaic with thousands of tiles. We’ve been in the process of building the Magdala guesthouse for many years now… this has meant many hours of meetings with architects, engineers, project managers, workers, volunteers and more. Many kilometers of cables, thousands of kilos of cement and stone, and like tiles, each forming small but crucial pieces so that this great project will be completed.
They say that when Michelangelo was painting the roof of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, Pope Julius II would ask him often and impatiently, “When will you finish?” to which Michelangelo would reply, “When I finish…” It has been a similar story with the Magdala project. Many have asked us when it will be completed and for a while the work was slowed down due to a shortage of funds, but thanks be to God and to the generosity of our benefactors, we were able to rapidly advance the progress over the last year and a half. Now we confidently anticipate opening in 2019 and to be able to host the first group of pilgrims in Magdala.
We are extremely thankful for your continued support and we are very excited to welcome you very soon!
Blessings,
Fr. Juan Maria Solana, L.C.
