Day 25: 3rd Commandment: The Sabbath Day

The Lord wanted to sit and rest with the beauty of creation after six days: to see the wonderfulness of the creatures, especially the last, most beautiful creatures, man and woman.

What does it mean to rest in God? How can I rest in the Lord? A foreshadowing of what He will provide for all of us, his children, forever and ever, is neither this boring playing the harp on a cloud type of rest nor is it that long-awaited catching up on my sleep. It’s actually you resting in the fullness of beauty, wonder, grace, and joy: what God was doing on the final day of creation!

The Lord is fully trustworthy, so you can put your confidence in him by keeping Sabbath as God’s sign of his love for his people. To show that you want to keep this love fresh, you have the privilege of honoring the perpetual covenant the Sabbath recreates each week.
