Day 37: 8th Commandment: Witness of the Truth

Aaron and Moses, his brother, both rebelled against God, and for this reason, they didn’t enter the Promise Land. This speaks to the fact that it’s very difficult to regain the trust of someone who wasn’t told the truth or who was let down by someone’s promise of their word.

Faithfulness is what endures both in friendships with others and in our covenant with God, who is true. In Christ, the whole of God’s truth has been made manifest. The truth that will “set you free” is what “one man owes to another to manifest” (Aquinas).

Ultimately, this truth is a person: The Way, The Truth, and The Life, Jesus. So, too, the way we live our own Christian lives bears witness to the truth of the Gospel. Bear witness to who the Truth is: be Someone who is true, someone who is trusted, someone who will be faithful to their word.
