Querida Familia de Magdala:
Me es muy grato enviarles este mensaje, con un saludo cordial y mis mejores deseos de que, a la puerta del verano, todos podamos gozar de mayor tiempo familiar y de un merecido descanso. En el hemisferio sur están entrando en el invierno. Ojalá que no sea penoso.
Primeramente quiero dedicar dos líneas para agradecer a todos por sus oraciones y mensajes con motivo de mi reciente operación al pie derecho. Un accidente infantil me dejó una secuela que había ido empeorando, hasta que se vio necesario operar. Fusionaron los médicos los huesos del canal interno de la “navícula”… son términos técnicos que entendí a base de dolores, pero poco más. Han sido semanas de algunas molestias e incomodidades, sobre todo por no poder apoyar el pie derecho. Poco a poco me he ido haciendo un hábito de vida y de movimiento y volviendo a mi vida normal. De verdad agradezco mucho su apoyo y simpatía ante este momento de mi vida.
En aquellos días de mi operación, precisamente el día 28 de mayo, Magdala cumplió 8 años de su inauguración. Recordamos en un video la inauguración del parque arqueológico y la consagración del Duc in Altum. Son recuerdos memorables que llevan nuestra gratitud a los amigos y bienhechores, a quienes nos honraron con su presencia en esas celebraciones y las hicieron posibles. Desde entonces quedó abierto Magdala a la visita de peregrinos y visitantes.
Quisiera reflexionar un poco sobre el tema. La inauguración de Magdala señaló algo así como la apertura de una nueva ventana al conocimiento y experiencia del evangelio de Jesús. Hemos definido Magdala como “lugar de encuentro de la historia judía y cristiana”. Así es: encontrarse en un lugar, dos religiones, con personas de entonces y de ahora, con un espíritu que intentamos vivir en el día a día de Magdala y que nos obliga a sentirnos humildes servidores de Dios.
Desde 2014 el flujo de peregrinos (gente que viene a Tierra Santa con intenciones espirituales y religiosas primariamente) o visitantes (mayormente gente local, que visita el lugar con intereses culturales, históricos, etc). ha ido en aumento, obviamente con el paréntesis del tiempo de pandemia. Ha sido muy grato ver un flujo creciente de personas de todo el mundo que quieren entrar por esa “ventana”, asomarse a la vida de Jesús, a sus milagros y enseñanzas; a coincidir con su mirada o con la de sus seguidores. En todo este esfuerzo han colaborado con nosotros varios sacerdotes legionarios que están ahora en otros ministerios, así como consagradas del Regnum Christi.
Quiero hacer una mención especial también a los voluntarios que han colaborado en este servicio, porque ellos han personificado aquel pasaje del evangelio de Lucas (8 1-3) donde juntamente con los Doce, algunas mujeres siguen y sirven a Jesús en su ministerio apostólico. Es precioso pensar que los voluntarios aquí en Magdala forman una comunidad de servicio al servicio del Señor, para que nuestros visitantes, huéspedes y peregrinos hagan una experiencia profunda en sus vidas. En sus camisetas, los volutarios llevan esta frase de San Pablo: “Ministri sumus et coadiutores Dei”, es decir, “Somos servidores y colaboradores de Dios”.
En este momento en que los peregrinos recomienzan sus visitas a los lugares santos, Magdala agradece a los voluntarios de ayer, de hoy y del futuro el personificar esta página del evangelio con el deseo de servir y colaborar con la obra de Dios en las vidas de los que encuentran. Tenemos muchas solicitudes de voluntarios y esperamos irlas atendiendo próximamente.
